Types Of Consoles And Their Cases

One of the first things that any computer enthusiast will tell you is to “never buy a pre-built machine”.  Not only are they incredibly overpriced, but they’re often filled with bulky components that may have been purchased on some sort of price-matching scheme.  Often these machines are poorly constructed or are assembled in such a way as to compromise performance.

However, not all pre-built machines are created equal.  Some can be made into serviceable gaming computers through some tweaking here and there.

I’m going to present three different kinds of consoles – an entry-level, mid-range, and high-end PC console that you can purchase right now at your local Best Buy or Walmart stores respectively (in no particular order).  For each console, I will first list the specifications and a brief explanation of what the spec represents.  Afterward, I’ll follow up with an explanation of how certain components can be replaced to upgrade your machine for improved performance.

While most people who shop at retail stores are likely not interested in doing these types of upgrades themselves, it is possible to upgrade most consoles without spending very much money at all.  This article is meant to give you an idea of how easy it really is.

Lastly, before we begin, it should be mentioned that there are hundreds if not thousands of different parts with which one could potentially build their own PC-based system.  There are just so many options.  This article will not mention every single possible option on the market, but it will attempt to cover some of the basics in creating your new console, while hopefully giving you an idea of how easy it is for just about anyone to do.

Entry Level Console

Entry-level PCs are generally used as low-spec computers meant only for basic tasks such as web browsing and office work.  As such, very little money can be initially spent on these machines with any significant results.  Fortunately, Best Buy has a machine that fits this description perfectly – The Velocity Micro Edge Z40. It comes complete with an Intel i3 processor, 4 GB RAM, and a 24 GB/1 TB HDD combo for under $500.  This particular console is not very upgraded-friendly, but it can still be made into a decent gaming PC with some tweaks and modifications.

Mid Range Console

Mid-range PCs are often used as desktop replacements or casual gaming machines.  These consoles boast more impressive specifications than entry-level ones, usually starting at $700-800 for the complete package and going up from there. Best Buy has one such machine which fits this description perfectly: The CyberPowerPC Gamer Xtreme GXi780. This one boasts an Intel i5 processor, 8 GB RAM, and a GTX 760 graphics card for $799 CAD – all of which can easily be upgraded to create a truly competitive system (although the case is included in the package is not particularly great).

High-End Console

High-end consoles are the most powerful of the bunch, usually meant for hardcore PC gamers or power users.  These units are often much more expensive than lower-budget options (anywhere from $1000 to $2000+) but also boast significantly better specifications. Best Buy has one such console available for purchase: The CyberPowerPC Gamer Supreme SLC8602. This system boasts an Intel i7 processor, 16 GB RAM, and 2 x GTX 770 graphics cards in SLI configuration for $1899 CAD – each component of which can be significantly improved upon (although the included case is pretty decent).

At this point, you must be wondering why I’ve told you all these things without actually explaining what they all mean and how upgrading is done.  Well, the next section of this article will explain how to upgrade each console and why you would want to do so.

5 Things You Must Know While Choosing The Best Console Pc Cases

1. ATX or Micro ATX?

An ATX computer case will likely accommodate any motherboard, making it the most versatile choice in terms of compatibility and upgradeability. But keep in mind that a microATX computer case will be 90% as good when it comes to performance and 20-30% cheaper than its full-sized cousin. It’s definitely worth considering for anyone looking to cut costs without sacrificing too much in the way of capabilities.

2. Is Bigger Better?

Aside from your standard Mini ITX cases, pretty much every other type of PC case is going to be around the same price range no matter what size you go for. If you’re not concerned about space efficiency or how heavy your new rig will be, then just go for the biggest case that you can find. You’ll have a much easier time upgrading if anything breaks or needs replacing in the future, and there’s a greater chance of finding replacement parts if your computer is popular enough to be widely available on the used market.

3. You get what you pay for

No matter what size or shape option you choose, it’s important to consider how much money you’re going to need to spend on additional hardware like fans, lighting kits, and fan filters. In particular, small cases may not accommodate large tower coolers without modification which will add extra cost, while micro ATX cases may require some DIY assembly that also incurs an up-front cost. Make sure that any extra expenses are worth paying for before taking the plunge.

4. Who needs a window?

Of course, flashy lighting and transparent panels aren’t everybody’s cup of tea – some people prefer a more subdued look that doesn’t draw added attention to your machine. If you don’t care whether or not your rig looks the part, then buying a computer case with windows is simply a waste of money since you won’t ever get to see anything through them apart from your own reflection anyway! Once again though, make sure this is true before opting for an inconspicuous option.

5. You’ll be living with it for a long time!

It may not matter as much if you’re only looking to upgrade a couple of years, but sticking with the same desktop case for the entire lifespan of your computer can be a costly mistake: any open slots or exposed components could easily allow dust and debris to accumulate inside, which will impede cooling and cause more frequent hardware failures. Just remember that it doesn’t matter how impressive your rig looks if none of its components are working!

There Are Many Benefits Of A Console Pc Case. Here Is A List Of The Top Five Benefits

  1. Expandability: A console pc case allows for a customizable experience because it can be expanded with custom components. A console pc case comes in all types and sizes that help consumers get the perfect setup for their workstation. For example, if someone needs more storage, they can add an additional hard drive to their system without having to purchase another external device or replace the entire computer!
  2. Price: Console PC cases usually have a lower price point than standard towers. In addition to being affordable options, these systems also have fewer components so they do not need as much power since they don’t run whole programs as a full tower would.
  3. Customization: Console PC cases can look however you want them to! They come in all shapes and sizes, as well as all colors of the rainbow. Console PC Cases can be designed and created to fit anyone’s taste and style.
  4. Style: One of the main reasons people start looking for console pc cases is that they stand out from standard boxes or towers on desks; they are more aesthetically pleasing. These cases add character to any room and therefore are worth purchasing because their appearance adds value to your home or workstation.
  5. Silence: The final benefit of a console pc case is that it does not take up much space AND makes little noise, making it an excellent choice for home and workstation use. Console PC cases are the newest, most efficient method for a quiet computing experience.
